The massive book of Rockstar Games’ art has been canceled and a new project is underway, publishing representatives have said.

Alexander Galen, V.P of Distributed Art Publishers, confirmed last week that plans for the massive $450 tome, called Digital + Analogue: The Art and Science of Rockstar Games, had been scrapped since it was announced over a year ago.

Publisher Steidl confirmed that the listing on the company’s website has since been removed.

According to Galen, book editor Eva Prinz is undertaking a completely new project about the British videogame developer, one that will not be distributed by Distributed Art Publishers.

There is no official word on the contents of the new book.

Could this just mean that the original 3 book design is scrapped, and the newer, one book design that you can view in the image gallery is the new book there talking about ? I really hope so, because I wanted that book so much !

Grand Theft Auto could be heading back to the West Coast for its next big outing. Fresh rumours suggest that's where the series could be heading, with reports outing Hollywood as the series' next location.

"vg24/7" is doing the whispering, as well as claiming that Grand Theft Auto V's announcement is coming up possibly within the next few months as the report makes the surprising claim that it could be unveiled alongside the first public airing of Max Payne 3.

Rockstar, who have unsurprisingly, remained tight-lipped, refusing to comment on rumour or speculation.

Grand Theft Auto has visited Hollywood before, of course, with San Andreas' Los Santos featured the area of Vinewood, Rockstar's own take on Tinseltown.

I've been following the progress about this book for a while now, and the article previously posted is now inaccurate.

Most UK retailers are selling this book between £50 and £90 because Rockstar have changed the design of the book, it is now a single book with all 3 volumes combined and the retail price is £89.99

I have provided image proof from the Steidl catalogue:

A much better price indeed. Add your comments below...

With so much success, Rockstar Games has opted to share what they have done and continue to do in order to bring people top quality video games. Next month you can pick up your own copy of the three-book set Digital + Analogue: The Art and Science of Rockstar Games by Rockstar Games themselves and published by Steidl but it won't be cheap...

"Digital + Analogue: The Art and Science of Rockstar Games
by Rockstar Games

Edition 7L

Rockstar Games creates some of pop culture’s most provocative icons. The Rockstar Games label, founded in 1998, is known for the creation of groundbreaking video games with unprecedented production values, style and depth with a dizzying range of techniques and media. Rockstar’s dedication to making the most extraordinary free-form game play captured the enthusiasm of millions of fans around the world and continues to shock those too afraid to take control.

This ultimate slip-cased Rockstar Games monograph checks in at 13.5” x 11.5” in three volumes, featuring original illustrations, wireframes, production stills, product shots, ads, inspiration and candids of the company’s games plus exclusive content on a CD/DVD. The hundreds of color photographs and never-before published video-scapes all culled from the archives of the creators will acquaint readers with the vast areas within the games that allow unparalleled freedom, and a unique experience every play.

This enormous compendium celebrates a decade of Rockstar Games with spectacular artwork and detail drawings of stunning environments (the hoods, grand canyons, asylums), death-defying tasks (races, executions, carjacks, drug runs), colorful subjects (bullies, smugglers, prisoners, hit men), and passersby with whom your characters interact, so that even a non-player may understand how exhilarating a Rockstar experience can be. Characters switch perspectives and radio stations, navigate through real time day-to-night changes and weather cycles, and participate in society with total moral freedom – actions that the company’s founder and executive producer describes as an “experiment in narrative.”

Published to coincide with Rockstar’s tenth anniversary, this timecapsule has been created with the company’s designers, and every page reflects their spectacular aesthetic. It is the ultimate Rockstar testament to the company’s history of singular moments reinventing the boundaries of style and mischief in entertainment, and setting a new standard for what is possible in interactive arts."

The development team behind the smash hit Red Dead Redemption suffered layoffs today. A spokesperson for the company confirmed to IGN late tonight "about" 40 employees were let go from the studio. Rockstar would not confirm what positions were targeted, however.

In response to the cuts, Rockstar San Diego studio manager Steve Martin released this statement:
As is typical with game development, our team sizes have always fluctuated over the course of the development cycle. As Rockstar San Diego transitions from the launch of Red Dead Redemption onto future projects, we are realigning our resources in order to continue to develop games as effectively as possible.

We are ensuring that all employees who are affected by these changes are being treated with care. While we have no announcements to make regarding a sequel to Red Dead Redemption, the team here are hard at work on the development of downloadable content for the game.
Red Dead Redemption sold an impressive 1.5 million copies in the U.S. during its launch month in May. Rockstar hopes to keep the ball rolling this year as it plans to offer at least four more downloadable packs over the next six months for the title.

After flying around in The Ballad of Gay Tony, it's time for The Lost and Damned to get in on some Social Club TV contests! Those with the PC version of the game can enter to win some cool prizes and be named the baddest person around! Find out how below...

From Rockstar:

Fresh off of the winners announcement from our previous Base Jumping Extreme Film Festival, the "Bad Ass Biker Gang Contest" will find you switching episodes over to The Lost and Damned's 2-wheeled mayhem, and using the PC version's in-game suite of video editing tools to make the baddest motorcycle-themed vid you can.

For your entry to qualify, just keep your video at 5 minutes or less and have it incorporate bikes or bikers somehow as a theme; so go ahead and make your best biker road trip picture, exploitation chain gang flick, insane motorcycle stunt action sequence, a romantic chopper ride around the city - the possibilities are endless.

The winning video entry will take home a fully customized entertainment PC from Shuttle® – powered by an Intel® quad-core processor, Sparkle GeForce® GTX 470 graphics cards and 4GB of Mushkin enhanced performance memory. The Shuttle® ultimate entertainment PC is only one-third the size of a regular PC, but it brings more games, more fun, and more style to your living room. For more information, visit: http://us.shuttle.com.

Two runners-up will also receive an Episodes from Liberty City collectibles pack.

To enter, upload your video to Social Club TV using the Episodes from Liberty City PC in-game video editor anytime between now and August 2nd and make sure to use the tag "bad-ass-biker". When you're done, go to the Bad Ass Biker Gang channel page on Social Club TV to check out other entries as they start flowing in (and vote on the ones you like the best).

We’ll pick the winning clip taking into consideration entertainment value, editing quality and overall creativity as well as Social Club user ratings. Keep checking back at Social Club TV to see how other Social Clubbers think your clip stacks up against the competition and stay tuned for the winners announcement in late August.

Void in certain countries and where prohibited. See www.rockstargames.com/socialclub/events for official rules and eligibility details.
