I agree, something isn't quite right with the head. Maybe not small, maybe a lil bit too high from the shoulders. Good job on the shadows and the shading with the graphite pencil is excellent. Another technique you can try is after you lay the graphite down evenly, you can try, either with your finger or a kleenx, smuging and smoothing it out. It takes a lil practice but eventually you get a good medium to show contrast with shadows.
